One customer is using DOW's Specialty Amine
Solvent to treat 60 MM scfd of natural gas, removing hydrogen sulfide down
to less than 4 ppm. This operation consumes 9 million Btu/hr. Using generic
DEA it was only possible to treat 45 MM scfd requiring 16 million Btu/hr.
Because the amine selectively treats hydrogen sulfide without removing excess
carbon dioxide, it is treating 33% more gas while consuming 56% less power.
The performance was so successful that the customer is to convert one of
its refining units from DEA to an MDEA based amine during 1998, This conversion
will increase the capacity from 75 MM scfd to 90 MM scfd, without the addition
of any new process equipment. When both plants are converted to specialty
amines and reach 150 MM scfd gas treated, the refiner will have achieved
a significant increase in the production capacity without spending equipment
capital intended for elevated volume. |
